Winchester® Ammunition introduces its new 2009 line of centerfire rifle ammunition. Super-X® Power Max Bonded™ is specifically designed for the whitetail deer hunter and takes the time-proven jacketed bullet design to a new level of performance at an affordable price. Winchester’s proprietary bonding process welds lead to a copper alloy jacket where the two act together during expansion for improved penetration and retained weight. “The bonding technology improves bullet performance with increased retained weight and deeper penetration, while still providing a quick and lethal knock-down,” said Glen Weeks, Centerfire Product Manager for Winchester Ammunition. “For any whitetail hunter who is interested in bullet strength and penetration, the new Power Max Bonded is it.”
Key features of the Super-X bullet include: - Protected hollow point PHP design
- Lead core bonded to jacket with proprietary process
- Massive frontal area of mushroom is more than double original diameter
- Lead remains bonded to jacket after impact
Super-X Power Max Bonded will be offered in the following calibers and bullet weights, with expected store delivery set for June of 2009:

Rick, I think it is intersting that they are marketing this bullet specifically for whitetail hunters. Seems like a good fit for all sorts of big game. I suppose it is more about market share than specific ballistics for any particular animal.
Live to hunt, thanks for stopping by. They say it is for whitetail but like you said I think it is more versatile than that.
I have to wonder if this bullet is really revolutionary or if it's just a slightly different version of the same old same old. Bullets have effectively been killing whitetails for over a hundred years.
I wish to complain.
As far as .30 Mags, I have a .308 Norma Mag, a .300 H&H Mag and a .338 WINCHESTER Mag and those aren't on the list!
Cue some vague rendition of a Monty Python sketch:
I'm being discriminated against! Can I sue them for a free house or something or maybe just ask them if they might do a .338 version for me to play with or sell me boolits so I can make my own?
I've got a .308 and a few .30-06 but I don't hunt with them in deers season much because they're less effective if I stumble on a big angry boar and family, which is more often than I stumble on a good whitetail, as often as not.
Happy Shooting,
Thomas
tom, that is a very good question. My advice to you is (no pun intended) but, shoot them off an email and see what they reply back with.
Have done. We shall see what I hear back. I really like .338 a lot and the odds of them doing a Norma or H&H version are realistically nill, but they might do a .338 being as it's a WINCHESTER cartridge. Lots of my friends hunt with them, too.
I just bought a bunch of .375 and brass off a friend so he could convert it into more .338 ammo and components. It's more popular than one might think in Central Texas as our whitetails tend on the smallish size because of the immense number of feral hogs situation.
.338, It's not just for Elk, Moose, and Bears anymore =]
Happy Hunting,
Tom
tom, awesome please keep me posted.
