Night time Driving can be Hazardous

It came to mind last night and I started thinking about deer verses car accidents. Maybe it is because I just got a new car or maybe it is because for the past month I have seen deer coming home from work every night. Either way I felt the need to mention or should I say remind.

I have seen so many deer lately at night that I literally have lost count. It seems that they are popping out all over the place.

I hate to see what happens this fall when they really start running around. It brings back bad memories from a couple of years ago.

I had a deer run into my truck, it wasn't at night but it was during the rut and a setting sun. I can still remember the sound it made when it hit the side of my truck. I never saw it coming.

The whole incident cost my insurance company $2,200.00 and me a few sleepless nights but I am glad the deer didn't suffer. We should all bare in mind that they can run out in front of you at any given time of the day or night.

With a new vehicle and car payments again you can rest assure I will be looking a bit harder on the way home at night. Just last week I had to slam on the breaks for one that ran out in front of me. I sure hope I see this many when deer season rolls around.

Thankfully, I have never hit a deer (I'm looking for some wood to knock on now), but they sure can do quite a bit of damage, and even cause death.

Just recently, here in my neck of the woods, we had a police officer, who was on his way to work on his motorcycle, get killed after hitting a deer.

Stay alert everyone. And keep your eyes peeled at all times.

They are very hard to see at night. But even during the day they seem to pop out of no where.

They are all over the place here too. Always seeing the aftermath of one being hit..sad really. Stay safe!

They are a real danger here in Central Texas. I have hit or been hit by three in the last 10 years and several family members have hit deer.

I've never hit a deer but I've had rather a few hit me. Not ONE of them touched the front of my car but they've hit me from front fender to rear quarter panel. Not much you can do about that except keep alert for their presence and hope.

Most recent was a front fender/wheel well hit. Yet to have one touch the front bumper of anything I ever owned.

When I see one come out on the road to cross I always slow way down because it seems like just about the time you get to where you seen it another one comes running across. It's like they are messing with you. Wait til your right on top of them then WATCH ME!!

Thanks for the comments all. It seems like there is a population boom this year from what I have been seeing.

I just wanted to add "Thanks for the reminder" Rick. I often travel a two lane state highway through the valley near the river and deer are always there. Drive carefully, my friend.

When I was growing up-you hardly ever saw deer in this area. Now if you drive at night-you have to be on the look out. Pap and Granny hit a small deer earlier in the Spring-but luckily it didn't do to much damage to their car.

It's important to not swerve when one runs out in front of you, it could cause you to loose control of your vehicle.
