You know I never really thought much about it but the other day Albert from "The Rasch Outdoor Chronicles" was helping me with a little writers block and had come up with an idea for a post. What he had mentioned was creating a Bucket List. Now at first I had always associated a bucket list with things to do before you die. I thought well, things are not that great but I don't think that is going to happen just yet. Then I thought, you never really know what tomarrow will bring.
Not trying to sound morbid mind you but one of my favorite sayings is "Life is too short to worry about so don't waste anytime". I say that for a few reasons but never the less I should take my advise and those of friends. So what follows is a list, My Bucket List of outdoor activities that I hope (I want) to accomplish.
"Rick's Bucket List"
- Shoot a record book Whitetail Deer
- Catch a record book Trout
- Shoot my first Eastern Wild Turkey
- Go on a Kansas Whitetail Deer hunt
- Learn to fly fish
- Visit Yellowstone National Park
- Become a official scorer for the NBBC
- Have a successful deer hunt captured on film
- Tan a deer hide
- Get my pistol permit
- Go camping/fishing/hunting with Tyler
- Have Heidi spend a day with me deer hunting (to see what I see)
I have put a lot of time into creating this list and I feel I have the most important items that I would like to accomplish. I encourage all to comment and tell me what you all think of my list.

I think your last item on the list is by far the most important one Rick. Records maybe pad the pride but there is nothing like having your wife as your hunting partner and sharing in all the things that grease your wheels out there. I thought I enjoyed hunting before, but nothing like I have the last three years since I've shared time with Sue in hunting camp. I've never got a record book buck but have got some nice ones - a couple 28" four points - but sharing with the wife is over the top.
I think it's a great list Rick and it's truly from the heart, which you just can't beat with a stick!
gary, I understand what you mean. Heidi just see's the end result but not what I go through to get there.
Kari, thanks. I did put a lot of time into it.
I'm with you Rick - I have a bunch of thoughts in my head about Outdoor goals I want to accomplish (a few of whch I have already done) but the morbidity (is that a word?) of the "Bucket List" made me never write it down.
Again, though, you're right - you never know what tomorrow brings. I'll put some thought into this and respond again later.
Good topic for a post
Wolfy
Wolfy, thanks. I'll be here
Great list Rick, I too have some "bucket list" items yet I have kept them in my head until I make travel plans, book the trip, etc. etc.
I agree with Gary, doing what you enjoy with family and friends is by far tops on the list!
Hey Rick,
There’s nothing morbid about setting goals, because you can set new ones as you shoot down the list. It’s a good way of pushing yourself to do more and also think about what you truly want in your life. Have to go with Gary on your last item being the one that stands out. A great post and one that we can all take something from.
Regards,
John
Well, I think I am going to have to put together a post on this! Rick, it pleases me to no end to be able to help you come up with a good idea to write on!
Best regards,
Albert
Rick - Enjoyed looking over your list and agree that it appears to be a very heartfelt post. One that we could all consider adding on our own blogs after giving it some thought. Wouldn't it be great to do some "fly fishing in Yellowstone Park"? Knocks two of them off with a visit and a cast.
I am really glad I did this post. Thanks Albert for the suggestion and Mel, fly fishing in yellowstone sounds awesome.
Great list, Rick!! I just posted mine a couple of days ago. I'm hoping to do a little fly fishing this summer in Wyoming, but I don't think it will be in Yellowstone.. I'll be close though.
Emily, that sounds good too. If you make it be sure to take some pictures.
Thanks for the good idea. I've spent quite a bit of time thinking about my own list and wrote it up tonight.
